The Shrine

The Shrine - James Herbert, Kris Dyer This was an OK read. Not one of my favorite Herbert books though..

It just seem to.. drag on a bit. It started well, and the last quarter was good, but the middle bit just seemed to last ages, and I'm not quite sure why.

I still like Herbert as an author though, and I will definitely be reading more of his books!
If you are new to Herbert I don't think I would start with this book, he has written a lot of books better then this one in my opinion!

Firelight

Firelight - Sophie Jordan *** 2.5 Stars ***

This book was... ok.
When I picked it up at the library I was hoping it was great. I mean.. dragons, right?! And the story seemed like it would be ok too.
Unfortunately it doesn't quite come through in my opinion.

Parts of the story doesn't really make sense to me. I don't want to do any spoilers here, in case you are planning on reading it for yourself, so I can't go into detail..
And I really didn't like the (extremely) abrupt ending. I mean, I know that writing a series instead on single books is what "everyone" does these days. I get that. That doesn't mean you have to end quite that fast though in my opinion... And yea, I know the point is to make you want to read (and buy, I'm sure) the next book straight away. I guess it just annoyed me..

So if you're really into young adult books and dragons, then feel free to give this one a go.
Personally I might have read the other 2 books if my library had those as well (apparently my local library are fans of having only the first book in series - annoying much?! This has happened to me several times, and I now check if they have all the books in a series before starting a read... Rant over ;) )
I don't think I'll be forking out and buying the rest of the series though. I'm not that interested in finding out how it all ends to be honest...

Evermore

Evermore - Alyson Noel When I read the blurb on the back of the book I thought it sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a go!
Unfortunately it didn't quite deliver...
The main character, Ever, lost her faimly in a car accident and barely survived herself. Now she can se auras and hear what people are thinking. Until one day when a handsome boy starts in her class, she can't "read" him at all. And she is instantly attracted to him...
Then follows the whole jumping between "I'm not good enough for him" to "I love him so much" to "I don't think I can trust him"... I get that teenagers can be insecure, but in the long run I just got fed up with it. I think the story has potential, but there is just too much teenage angst for my liking. And yes, I have long past my teenage years, so maybe that's where the problem is? (Though I have read YA books and enjoyed them before, so maybe that's not the only reason)

I also kept thinking it reminded me a lot of Twilight..

All in all an OK read, but I don't think I will be reading the other books in the series...

Birthmarked

Birthmarked - Caragh M. O'Brien ** 3.5 Stars **

I quite enjoyed this book. More than I thought I would to be honest. I picked it up at the library because I liked the cover... and the blurb sounded ok, so I thought I'd give it a go.
The story of Gaia and the dystopian world she lives in is good. The separation between the people living in the center of the city and the ones living outside are massive, the ones outside not really poor, but definitely not well off like the people on the inside. And in addition to that: The outsiders have to give up a set amount of babies per year to be adopted by parents inside the walls.
Gaia is a young girl that has been trained by her mother to deliver babies. They also have the task of delivering the selected babies to the carers inside the walls.

Then one night her parents gets arrested, and Gaia starts to see that all the rules she has lived by, everything she thought was right, might not be as it seems.

I will be reading the rest of the series. (Despite my library deciding to only have the first book - why would you ever do that, it is just cruel?!?)

Would recommend if you like YA dystopian and the blurb sounds good ;)

Birth of a Killer (The Saga of Larten Crepsley #1)

Birth of a Killer (The Saga of Larten Crepsley #1) - Darren Shan I borrowed this book from the library. Only after I got home I realised that it was a pre-sequel to a different series (Cirque Du Freak).

The blurb still sounded interesting though, so I decided to read it anyways. And I really enjoyed it, though I did feel I was missing out a little as I haven't read the other series. (I feel like I might need to now though!)

I'm guessing my rating might have been a star higher if I had read the other books first. So I would recommend that if you are considering reading this one! (That will teach me to rush when I'm at the library...)

But it was still a good read and I enjoyed the story! I will probably end up reading the rest of the series, though I might try to get hold of the Cirque the Freak series first!

Inferno

Inferno - Dan Brown Another good book by Dan Brown!
If you have read and enjoyed his previous books, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy this one too! :)

Suspense, rushing to find the truth before time runs out and there are even a couple of surprises thrown in along the way!
Definitely worth the read!

Hive III

Hive III - Griffin Hayes (Combined review of all 3 books, as I feel it was written as one book but split into three parts)

I enjoyed this series! It has a slightly different view on the story, as the zombie invasion has already happened many years in the past. But of course it turns out that they zombies aren't gone for good, they were just buried in the hope no one would ever find them.
The story has some interesting characters in it, and I liked that the zombies worked as a hive (hence the name of the books I suppose ;), with a queen to lead them. This made the zombies more difficult to run away from as they were able to send signals between each other and one zombie on the chase would quickly turn into a horde.

I think these books are well worth a read if you enjoy zombies! :)
